Gividen was interviewed by Winston Erickson for the Oral History of Utah's World War II Veterans on May 22, 2000. Gividen tells about his military experiences, including getting shot down. Handwritten letter (2 pages) dated 3 August 1877 in Dara, Darfur, and addressed to "dear Dixon." At the time, Gordon was serving as governor of the Equatorial provinces of Central Africa, the Sudan, and Egypt and was actively engaged in military actions to suppress the slave trade. He outlines his plans for dealing with the forces of the those dealing in slaves.

Handwritten and signed letters. One of the letters is addressed to Colonel Graham and was written at Khartoum on October 15, 1877. In this item Gordon gives a superficial account of his arrival and duties in Khartoum in answer to a letter he received from Graham. The other letter is not dated and is unclearly addressed. It is in response to a letter received and gives an apology for not being able to provide information.
