Kimball writes that Williams was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, had encounters with the Ute Indians, lived as a polygamist, and converted to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Typewritten copy of Mary's biography of her parents, but the bulk of the account is autobiographical. Mary tells of coming to Utah in 1847 including incidents en route. She tells of the early settlement of Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah including problems with Indians, crickets and grass hoppers, and the difficult living conditions.

Mary's father joined the Mormon Church and moved his family to Nauvoo, Illinois and later to Utah. Mary married John Witmer Hoover in 1855, had twelve children, and spent most of her adult life in Provo, Utah.
