Paxton was born in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1854, migrated to Utah in 1863, worked in Parowan in 1864, moved to Panguitch in 1865, participated in the Black Hawk War against the Indians, and learned masonry at Toquerville in 1867. He also presents a copy of his patriarchal blessing.
