George Henry Abbott Harris autobiography

Harris writes about his youth in England, his conversion to the Chrurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1849, his immigration to the United States in 1851, and the overland journey to Utah in 1852. Collection contains diaries, ephemera, and patriarchal blessings produced by Oliver Boardman Huntington and his son, Oliver B. Huntington. Materials date from between 1843 and 1932.

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary. Jackman made the overland journey from Illinois to Utah in 1847 with the first company of Mormon pioneers. He writes about travelling conditions, weather, frequent encounters with Indians, and buffalo hunting. Jackman's company was led by Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church. John Peter Rasmus Johnson diary

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary of Johnson's overland journey by wagon train from Nebraska to Salt Lake City in 1864. Johnson writes about encounters with Indians, deaths and births within the company, daily travelling conditions and camping locations, and the death of numerous oxen. The diary is moderately descriptive with daily entries.

Includes descriptions of his early life, his life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his service as a Mormon missionary in England, and his life as an early pioneer in Utah. Diaries also include reminiscent accounts of early Church history written by Huntington later in life. There are many gaps in the record.
