Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten letter. The item is dated Sept. 14, 1857 and is addressed to "Major McCullogh" and Lewis Brunson (1831-1888). Brunson was the bishop in Fillmore, Utah for the Mormon Church. Young states that preparations are to be made to deal with the advancing federal troops which were part of the Utah Expedition, 1857-1858. He also outlines the nature of the defense of Utah. In resistance the Utahns would "desolate the Territory" and "waylay our enemies." Young also admonishes...

Scope and Contents Contains photocopies of two handwritten and signed letters dated December 17, 1845 and addressed to William L. Marcy, Secretary of War for the United States. The two items are identical in content, but one appears to be a rough draft of the other. Young petitions the federal government for funds to aid in the westward migration of Mormons from Nauvoo, Illinois, with Vancouver Island as a possible destination. Brigham Young letters to Thomas L. Kane

Scope and Contents

Letters were handwritten by Brigham Young to Thomas L. Kane on October 30, 1854. In the letters Young asks Kane to serve as Utah's territorial delegate to Congress. The two letters are identical and were sent separately to ensure delivery. Collection also includes photocopies of the letters.

Collection contains one bound photocopied typed transcript of a diary written by Emily Young. She writes about her daily activities in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and as one of the wives of Brigham Young. Also includes articles of interest likely copied from newspapers and magazines. The last page of the volume contains a life sketch and image of Emily Young. Dated 1874 to 1899.
