John Charles Fremont letter to George Talcott
Handwritten and signed letter, dated August 18, 1848, and addressed to Col. George Talcott, "Chief of Ordnance." Fremont writes concerning "vouchers for disbursement in the Ordnance Department" for the campaigns in California for 1846 and 1847.
E. B. Hubbel journals
Contains two journals. One journal, written by E. B. Hubbel, during the Mexican American War. The second journal includes a continuation of E. B. Hubbel's writings, some Mexican Treasury records, and the journal of Frank. D. Hubbel during the American Civil War. Materials dated 1836-1862.
John Taylor Hughes diaries
Handwritten diaries in pencil and ink kept from 17 Aug. 1846 to 1 May 1847. Hughes writes about the "Doniphan Expedition" into New Mexico. The item was published in Willima E. Connelley's "Doniphan's Expedition" in 1907.
Francis Kuhn scrapbook
Scrapbook largely comprised of newspaper clippings relating to the United States war with Mexico, 1846 to 1848. Most of the items were clipped from newspapers of the time. The materials relate to the course and outcome of the war and to the personalities involved. Some of the items are in Spanish. The collection is believed to have been created by a Francis Kuhn.
