Scope and Contents Handwritten letters addressed to Samuel Russell, a Mormon in Salt Lake City, Utah, during the American Civil War. Also included is a typescript of some of the letters. The letters tell about Vaughan's dislike for Abraham Lincoln, his visits to Virginia and the battlefield of Second Manassas (Bull Run) where he helped care for the wounded, and his anti-black sentiments.
