Orson Pratt correspondence

Photocopies of two letters. One, dated 30 April 1857, was sent to "my dear wife Juliaett" from Orson and deals with family matters. The other, dated 26 Jan. 1851, was written by Louisa P. Pratt (wife of Orson) to "dear cousin Jane." This missive was written while Louisa was with Orson on a mission to the Tahitian Islands. It describes the island of Tapai in that group and gives an account of missionary activities there.

Biography of James Whitmore Preston

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Preston was born in 1822 in Massachusetts, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and married Emeline Houston in 1851 in Nauvoo, Illinois. He migrated to Utah in 1851 and settled in American Fork. He took a second wife, Katherine Nash, and died in 1898.

George Q. Cannon promissory note

Handwritten note promising to pay on demand $103.66 to George P. Cannon for "hand cart shares" and provisions. The item was signed by William Horn. The note was written in Florence, Nebraska on July 6, 1860. Apparently, the note was written by Cannon, including his own name, and endorsed by Horn.

Biography of Lydia Ester Hall Pulley

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Lydia Ester Hall Pulley was born in 1854 in England and migrated to Utah in 1860. She married James Pulley in 1874 and moved to American Fork, Utah.

Purdy is an intelligent and detailed writer. He describes various companies' rules and regulations and his attempts to join a suitable group traveling to California. Handwritten records dated 1858 and 1859. These records include information of a company of emigrants from Nebraska City, Nebraska to Genoa, Utah and from Camp Floyd, Utah to Carson Valley, Nevada. Included are accounts of the travels, articles of incorporation, and notes on the meetings of the company. Also included are bound photocopies of the documents.

Handwritten financial papers of William and Elias Rector. Two documents, signed by Elias Rector, concern land transactions. A third itemizes the accounts of his estate. Two notes, signed by William Rector, authorize payment of U.S. funds to surveyors. The remaining three documents are letters from persons for whom William Rector acted as agent and describe land transaction activities.
