Scope and Contents Handwritten diary kept in the Pitman style of shorthand. A typewritten transcript of the diary from 1 March to 31 December 1860 is also included. The rest of the journal is available only in shorthand. Smith writes about his daily activities including attending Mormon Church meetings, courting "Emma," and his relationship with his family. On 1 July: "Went and walked with Emma after meeting. I offended her unconsciously. Went home with her and obtained her forgiveness for my transgression."...
