Typescript of an interview taken from the included cassette sound tape. Whitman was interviewed by his granddaughter, Stacy Whitman. Dale talks about his service with the United States armed forces in India, China, and other parts of Asia.

Handwritten and signed letter and diary. This letter is addressed to Captain Edward L. Hartz and is dated April 17, 1856. It discusses a military march through the Rio Grande Valley and life in and around Fort Union, New Mexico. The diary, kept from 1855-1856, records Irwin's journey from New York to Corpus Christi, Texas, abroad the steamship Prometheus and his overland march to Fort Filmore via a number of military forts.

Handwritten and signed letter addressed to the Senator Thomas H. Benton and dated February 16, 1830. The item gives Jackson's regards to the descendants of General Davidson who died in the American Revolution.

Dan James interview
Transcript of an interview conducted by Criss James on 10 March 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Criss was Dan's nephew. Dan James joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean and Vietnamese wars. He was a senior advisor to the Vietnamese Navy and was assigned to keep the waters clear.
