Scope and Contents

Proceedings of a governing body in the Netherlands. These materials appear to be a scribe's record of the meetings of the organization. From analysing the language, paleography, and paper used in the documents, it has been surmised that the items were produced sometime in the seventeenth century.

The issues treated are largely governmental, diplomatic, and political both on the national level and within the province of Zeeland but also include such materials as contracts of the Dutch East India Company...

Scope and Contents Contains 176 handwritten letters (379 leaves and in Spanish) relating to Spain's struggle with her English, French, and Dutch enemies on the seas of western Europe. They especially deal with how to conduct the naval war against Spain's enemies after the defeat of the Armada. The items cover the period of Philip's reign from 1591 to the King's death in September of 1598.
