Robert James Coffey autobiography and poems
One bound volume and one loose volume of autobiographical notes, poems, and scrapbook materials along with photocopies of the collection. Coffey served in a Pennsylvania regiment of the Union Army during the American Civil War (1861-1865). He participated in a large number of campaigns and gives detailed accounts of army life. There are also printed copies of many of the poems Coffey was able to publish.
Rene Auguste Chouteau and Edward Hempstead complaint against Jean Louis Boismier
Handwritten complaint signed by August Chouteau and E. Hempstead. The item was lodged against Jean Louis Boismier and was dated 19 Aug. 1811. Boismier was to be confined on an island in the Mississippi River until he could be sentenced.
Deed of citizenship
Handwritten translation into English of a letter originally written in French on velum. The item grants citizenship for Adam Louis Pillissier in the town of Latour de Peylz in France.
E. Parizot receipt
Handwritten and signed receipt dated 23 July 1863 (1 page). Parizot states that he received $3000 from J.H.T. Chapman for a "negro girl named Lizzie, fourteen years of age." Parizot further writes "received Houston" probably meaning Houston, Texas.
