Handwritten and printed certificate in Spanish appointing Leal y Arnajo to a captaincy of the Guanajuato national guard under Manuel Echeverria. The item is dated 28 Aug. 1850.
Abraham Lincoln certificate of appointment for John H. Henry
Printed form with handwritten entries. The item is dated 11 March 1863 and was signed by Lincoln and William Henry Seward, secretary of state of the United States. Lincoln appoints John J. Henry of Delaware to be the commissioner and consul general of the United States in Liberia.
Brigham Young certificate of appointment for W. S. S. Willis
Printed form with handwritten notations. The item is dated 11 March 1851 and signed by Almon W. Babbitt and Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church. W. S. S. Willis is appointed as captain of Company B, Battalion of Infantry in Lehi, Utah.
James H. Martineau certificates
Printed and handwritten certificates, bonds, and commissions. The items document Martineau's commission in the Utah Militia, his appointment as the Sheriff of Iron County, Utah, and his position as an alderman of Parowan, Utah. Seven of the manuscripts were signed by Brigham Young (1801-1877), the second president of the Mormon Church.
Ulysses S. Grant certificates and letters
Two printed forms with handwritten notations. Grant appoints Henry Baxter as "Minister Resident" to Honduras and gives him diplomatic passage and protection. Also incuded are two handwritten and signed letters in which Grant authorizes Baxter to represent, consult, and negotiate in behalf of the United States.
Woodrow Wilson certificates of appointment
Printed, handwritten, and signed certificates of appointment. Wilson appoints Holden C. Richardson as "a Member of the Advisory Committee for Aeronautics" in 1915. The item is signed by Wilson and William Jennings Bryan, secretary of state. Wilson appoints Duncan LaMont as postmaster at Colorado City, Colorado in 1916. The item is signed by Wilson and Albert S. Burleson, postmaster general.
