Handwritten letter (2 pages) dated 3 August 1877 in Dara, Darfur, and addressed to "dear Dixon." At the time, Gordon was serving as governor of the Equatorial provinces of Central Africa, the Sudan, and Egypt and was actively engaged in military actions to suppress the slave trade. He outlines his plans for dealing with the forces of the those dealing in slaves.

Handwritten and signed letter (4 pages), dated February 9, 1877, and addressed to "Mr. Scott." Gordon, writing from Cairo, discusses the British attempt to stop the slave trade in Africa and comments on a possible British guarantee of Egyptian independence.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated November 17, 1862, and addressed to George Hugh Wyndham. Gordon writes about the condition in China and requests he be attached to the "Imperial Government" to assist in training troops to be used against the Taiping rebels.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated February 8, 1862, and addressed to George Hugh Wyndham. Gordon writes about his twenty-one day journey from Kalgan to various places in the Shansi Province of China. He refers to the fears the people have relating to the Taiping Rebellion.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated December 10, 1880, and addressed to Gerald Graham. Gordon writes about an article on coercion written by Bruce Jones and comments on self control and the proper use of power.

Handwritten and signed letters. One of the letters is addressed to Colonel Graham and was written at Khartoum on October 15, 1877. In this item Gordon gives a superficial account of his arrival and duties in Khartoum in answer to a letter he received from Graham. The other letter is not dated and is unclearly addressed. It is in response to a letter received and gives an apology for not being able to provide information.
