Smoot informs President Young that despite being nominated for Mayor of Salt Lake City, he prefers to decline. He had already served for 9 years in that capacity. Also, a letter from Margaret T. Smoot, one of Abraham O. Smoot's wives, to a person whose identity has not been determined. The letter is four pages long, with Margaret's signature following the first three pages.
