Zachary Taylor letters to P. Hagner
Handwritten and signed letters, dated 25 Oct. 1817 and 3 Jan. 1821, and addressed to P. Hagner, auditor. Taylor writes about financial accounts and military reports.
Nelson Appleton Miles letters
Five handwritten letters and one typed letter, all signed by Miles. They deal primarily with military matters. One item is addressed to Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901), President of the United States, and another to Frank D. Baldwin.
Philip Henry Sheridan letters
Handwritten and signed letters all written in May, June, and July of 1876 and sent from Chicago, Illinois. Six of the items were written to Wesley Merritt who was with the 9th cavalry and later commanded the 5th cavalry. Sheridan gives orders and suggestions relating to the campaign against the Indians.
Stewart Van Vliet letter
Handwritten letter to an unidentified person, dated 16 Nov. 1887, and written in Washington, DC. Van Vliet accepts an invitation to attend a luncheon and then to speak.
William Jenkins Worth letter
Handwritten and signed letter. This item was written at the headquarters of the Irish brigade at Corpus Christi, Texas on February 24, 1846 and is addressed to Zachary Taylor. Worth defends his actions in the field and explains that he cannot render himself subject to the appropriate authority.
