Scope and Contents Photocopies of handwritten diaries and correspondence. Bleak's diaries cover the years 1864, 1869-1895 with a gap for parts of 1885 and for 1886. Bleak writes about his daily activities in St. George and in Santa Clara, Utah, about his activities while serving on the Southern Indian Mission, about his callings for the Mormon Church, and about his relationships with various leaders of the Mormon Church including Brigham Young (1801-1877), Jacob Hamblin (1819-1886), Erastus Snow (1818-1886),...

James Lovett Bunting diaries and Bunting family directory

Photocopies of the handwritten Bunting diaries (MSS 738). The originals have been restricted and are unavailable for patron use. The diaries include accounts of missionary work in Great Britain for the Mormon faith and describe life in Kanab and St. George, Utah. The diaries cover the years from 1857 to 1920 but have several gaps. Also included is a Bunting family directory from the year 1968.

Brigham Young letters to Brigham Morris Young

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of handwritten letters addressed to Young's son, Brigham Morris Young (1854-1931), while serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii. Brigham Young writes about the Church's activities in Utah including the progress on the St. George Temple, Young's inspiration to start the United Order, his trip to St. George, Utah, and numerous conferences and meetings.

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letters dated 6 April 1874 and 15 Sept. 1887. The 1874 missive is addressed to settlements "southeast of St. George," Utah, and relates to the mission of the the Mormon Church to the Indians of Moencopi. The 1887 letter is addressed to George Alfred Townsend and relates to Townsend's disire to come to the West U.S.
