George H. Carver diaries

Photocopy of handwritten diaries. The collection consists of two diaries. The first was kept from 1879 to 1880 while Carver was serving in the Southern States. The second was kept from 1898 to 1899 while Carter was working in the Northwestern States. Also included is an account of Carter's interview with a female servant of the infamous John D. Lee, who was associated with the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857.

Thomas Waters Cropper autobiography

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten autobiography. Some of the item is in Cropper's own hand. The rest was dictated to his daughters. Cropper was born in Texas, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and migrated to Utah in 1856. One fourth of the original party turned back in 1853 when they heard of the Mormon doctrine of polygamy. He describes the immigrant group killed by Mormons at Mountain Meadows in 1857. Cropper lived in Fillmore, Utah, and later moved to Deseret, Utah. ...

Much of the correspondence is between Dame and General Authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The material relates to Dame's life and activities, including his militia service and his connection to the Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1857.

Scope and Contents Typewritten letter addressed "to whom it may concern: and especially my own family." The item was written in Mesa, Arizona, and dated 24 April 1916. It was copied by S. C. Richardson on 1 June 1931. Hakes heard of the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857 before he moved to Parowan, Utah, in 1858. Scope and Contents This collection consists of typescripts of biographies and histories of members of the Hammond family and their ancestors. The biography of Jasper Melvin Hammond (1882-1958) was written "by his wife and daughters" sometime after his death. Jasper, often called Jesse, was born in Providence, Utah but was raised in Marysville, Idaho.
