Ebeneezer Emory Gore autobiography

Scope and Contents Typewritten carbon copy of an autobiography with pencilled corrections composed in Lawrence, Kansas in 1904. Gore participated in an overland journey to Jacksonville, Oregon in 1852 and presents many insights into frontier and pioneer life. Gore was familiar with the Mormons in Kirtland, Ohio and in Nauvoo, Illinois. William Greenwood autobiography

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten autobiography and diary. The manuscript was read by Jennie Greenwood, William's grand daugther-in-law, at a meeting of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in Utah County, Utah. Greenwood writes about his life to the year 1848 and then starts a diary which has many gaps. Greenwood was born in England and later moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, with the Mormons. William Greenwood papers

Contains twelve handwritten, signed letters which concern Greenwood's conversion to Mormonism in England, his immigration to the United States, activities in Nauvoo, Illinois, and the 1847 trek to Salt Lake City and American Fork, Utah. Also includes a bound autobiography (plus typescript) written between 1869 and 1884.

Zenos H. Gurley letter to Joseph Smith, Jr.

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letter dated 4 May 1842 and addressed to Joseph Smith (1805-1844), the first president of the Mormon Church. Gurley writes that he was unable to attend a meeting with the Nauvoo Legion militia organization and describes the founding of a branch of the Mormon Church in Wisconsin.

Signed documents concerning a debt of $20,000 owed to Isaac Galland by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for land near Nauvoo, Illinois. Galland affirms that the successors to Joseph Smith are fleeing the jurisidiction of the Illinois courts without paying the debt.
