Scope and Contents Handwritten letter dated 29 Jan. 1885 addressed to "Dear Maggie." Whitney announces the birth of a daughter to his wife, Zina Beal Smoot Whitney, within an hour of when he wrote the letter. He tells of the birth and who was in attendance at the time.
