William Law diary

Typewritten copy of a diary. The journal was kept from 1 Jan. to 28 June 1844 when Law was in Nauvoo, Illinois. Law writes about his excommunication from the Mormon Church, a visit from Hyrum Smith (1800-1844), and the operation of the Nauvoo Expositor newspaper. He also and gives his opinion of Joseph Smith (1805-1844) and comments on his death.

General laws promulgated from the Hague on 25 and 26 November 1616 relating to the entire United Provinces recently separated from the crown of Spain. The laws cover a wide variety of subjects including the right of lords Herman and Balthazar van Ripperda to maintain jurisdiction over the town and area of Delfzijl. Many of the materials relate to dike administration, water control, and control of sluices.

Handwritten and printed legal instruments relating to Emma Hale Smith (1804-1879), wife of the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith (1805-1844). One of the items deals with the payment of taxes owed on certain properties in the county. The other item is a statement of guardianship and real estate inheritances relating to the children of Emma Smith and signed by her.

Letter to Mrs L. R. Carter

Handwritten letter addressed to "Mrs L. R. Carter." The letter is dated October 25, 1899 and was apparently written by a Mormon woman seventy years old. She talks about clothing and her participation in a July 24th parade in an unnamed town, probably in Utah.
