The collection dates from 1870 to 1995. Much of the collection has to deal with his church life, in particular with his service as a bishop.

Also contained are a series of photocopied outgoing letters from Emmett Hayes during this period to his family, primarily his parents. A small collection of mission-related ephemera is contained.
