Comments on the progress of the Methodist Church in the area, including a religious meeting where a "girl was prostrated under the overwhelming power of God". Mentions that there are both English and German Methodists in his area, and comments on the progress of the church in nearby Lehigh County; the near completion of a church in Allentown; and receiving help from Methodists who had arrived from New Jersey. Ludovicus Robbins letter

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letter dated 29 April 1833 and addressed to M. P. Squier of Geneva, New York. Squire was probably Miles Powell Squier (1792-1866), a minister in the Presbyterian Church. Robbins reports about church activities, missionary efforts, and relates that a man was given over to "ardent spirits" (alcohol).

Joanna Southcott sealing document

Handwritten certificate signed by Joseph Allman and Joanna Southcott. The item was also "sealed" with a red wax seal which meant that the holder would be among the 144,000 mentioned in the Book of Revelations who had a special calling at the return of Jesus Christ. The document states: "The sealed of the Lord the elect precious man's redemption to inherit the Tree of Life to be made heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ."
