Handwritten letters all addressed to Cardinal Rodolfo Pio da Carpi, legate of the marquisate of Ancona (200 items). Most of the items deal with religious and political issues relating to the Council of Trent (1545-1563). The items are by various persons including those who were in important in the politics of the time.

They were men of ecclesiastical and political authority. They deal with matters relating to Catholic Church doctrine, liturgy, papal authority, and conciliar theory. They also deal with the various aspects of the conduct of the Council: its progress and decisions. The letters were addressed to Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, 1520-1589...
