Contains papers and materials relating to J. M. Boutwell's career as a geologist from 1900 to 1945. Includes many mining maps and reports in different regions in Arizona (Bisbee), Utah (Bingham), Mexico (Cananea), and Peru (Cerro de Pasco). Also inludes business and professional correspondence, profesional affiliations, and reports and surveys, many dealing with the United States Geological Survey, which he worked for from 1900 to 1908.
