Includes primarily records from the Kirtland and Nauvoo periods, with many relating to the construction of the Nauvoo Temple. Materials date from between 1833 and 1861.

Contains early manuscript copies of more than twenty revelations, all but two of which have since been published in the Doctrine and Covenants. Seven of these these are addressed to Whitney, either mentioning him in a priesthood role or giving him instructions. Materials date from between 1829 and 1847.

Contains poll books, certificates, petitions, reports, orders, and other materials related to Mormon militia units, including both the Nauvoo Legion and the Mormon Battalion. Materials date from between 1840 and 1858.

Contains revelations, correspondence, legal records, military documents, and church records created and collected by Whitney between 1829 and 1882. Materials document Whitney's service as bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as other aspects of the administration, economics, and community life in Mormon communities in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois.
