William Farrer diaries and letters
Contains seven handwritten volumes, plus typescripts which focus on Farrer's Hawaiian Mission, 1850-1854. Volume one contains accounts of his work in the California gold fields prior to his mission call. Volume seven is entirely in the Hawaiian language. Also included are photocopies of typescripts of 71 letters written to and by Farrer when he served in the Hawaiian Islands.

Detailed handwritten description of the scenery and natural wonders of the islands as the unidentified author hikes the countryside and sails along the coast. Apparently written with the intent of publication so as to draw United States attention to the commercial, political and military value of the islands.

Eleanor Kartchner diary
Typewritten diary with handwritten corrections. Kartchner kept this diary while on a trip to Hawaii from 26 Dec. 1974 to 5 Jan. 1975. She tells about her daily activities on the trip in some detail. At the end of the diary she wrote some suggestions for tourists visiting Hawaii.
