William Farrer diaries and letters

Scope and Contents

Contains seven handwritten volumes, plus typescripts which focus on Farrer's Hawaiian Mission, 1850-1854. Volume one contains accounts of his work in the California gold fields prior to his mission call. Volume seven is entirely in the Hawaiian language. Also included are photocopies of typescripts of 71 letters written to and by Farrer when he served in the Hawaiian Islands.

John Thomas Giles diaries

Handwritten diaries and teaching notes. Giles writes about his daily activities in Provo, Utah; his two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii (1890-1897 and 1905-1907); his work at a lime kiln; his work on a railroad; and his teaching of Sunday School for the Church.

Printed and handwritten certificates. These items certify that Green is of good character and is travelling to Hawaii on a mission for the Mormon Church. Two of the manuscripts are signed by the second president of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young.

Minnie Iverson Hodapp papers

James Keeler diaries

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of handwritten diaries. Keeler writes about his activities while serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii from 1850 to 1855 and from 1876 to 1878. Keeler also writes about his life in Utah as a carpenter and farmer. Also included is a diary of Eliza Shelton Keeler, James' wife, which she kept from 1891 to 1902. The Keelers lived much of the time in Richfield, Utah.

Scope and Contents Collection contains nine spiral bound typescript volumes or Francis Asbury Hammond's Mormon missionary journals. The journals chronicle his first and second missions to the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands from 1852-57 and 1864-65. Typescripts were prepared in 2005 by John J Hammond of Kent State University.
