Prows was a pioneer to both Salt Lake City, Utah and Colonia Juarez, Mexico; a member of the Mormon Battalion; a gold prospector; a cooper; a horticulturist; and a polygamist. He was married to both Lodesky Ann Roberds and to Louisa Melinda James both of whom he took to Arizona. Then he took Louisa to Colonia Juarez due to the persecution of polygamists.
