Scope and Contents Photocopies of typescript journal which was transcribed from the holograph original by Albert J. Levine. Flake was born in Beaver, Utah but spent most of his life in Arizona. He attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah and served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in Mississippi (1883-1885). James Madison Flake diaries

Handwritten diary kept from 1887 to 1889 when Flake was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England. Also included is a handwritten autobiography and diary. Flake summarizes his life to the year 1888 at which time he began a diary with many gaps and many short entries. Dates range from 1887 to 1929.

Handwritten diaries and a typescript of these items. The entries go from 16 June 1907 to 26 Sept. 1908. Flake writes about his experiences as a missionary for the Mormon Church. He spent most of his time as a missionary working in Illinois.
