Typed transcript of part of Henry Rice Mann's diary. Transcript begins June 22, 1849, and ends September 18, 1849. On the entry of August 10, 1849, Mann is 35 years old. The diary recounts his trip across the United States to become a gold panner in California. Mann describes the climate, surrounding nature, the wagon train, camping life, and the prospect of searching for gold in California.

Alexander McRae letters

This collection consists of a photocopy of a handwritten transcription of letters that were transcribed from a microfilm copy of letters composed by Alexander McRae. Most of the letters were addressed to McRae's children and other family members. They deal largely with personal matters, but he mentions some business concerns and recounts some of the news of Salt Lake City. Some are official letters concerned with bishopric and related church matters. Dated 1880 to 1886.
