Scope Note: Big Springs Ranch (approximately 1880-1905) was a cattle ranch in Carbon County, Utah. Big Springs Ranch was owned by L. A. Scott-Elliott from approximately 1880 to 1905. During that time, he raised sheep and cattle, watering his stock at Big Springs. Because water rights arguments with his neighbor, George C. Whitmore, Scott-Elliott lost the resulting legislation. The value of the ranch soon declined, and he eventually lost the ranch at a sheriff's sale. Eventually, the Denver & Rio Grande railroad bought the property and its water.
