The collection deals with Brininstool's research and publications on the numerous battles and incidents relating to the Indian Wars in the American West.

Clarke letter to J. M. Curtis
Handwritten letter, signed by surname only, and addressed to J. M. Curtis, Indian Interpreter, Denver. It reports on a skirmish in 1873 between eighteen Ute Indians and a group of Arapaho and Cheyenne Indians at Deer Trail, Colorado.
George Crook letters
Handwritten and signed letters. Two are dated 25 Sept. 1876 and the other is dated 1 Oct. 1876. All three were written at Ft. Laramie, Wyoming and addressed to Wesley Merritt, commander of the 5th Calvary. Crook orders the discharge of some scouts, advises that "California Joe" be made the Merritt's guide, and tells him how to attack Red Cloud's Dakota Indians.
George A. and Elizabeth B. Custer papers
This collection includes miscellaneous correspondence of both Custers including military reports and orders, newspaper clippings, and two patents issued to G. A. Custer. Correspondents include Edwin. M. Stanton, Zachariah Chandler, Reuben E. Fenton, Andrew Johnson, Lawrence Barrett, William T. Sherman, Nelson A. Miles, B. O. Aylesworth, and A. B. Ostrander.
Robert J. Ege book drafts
Typewritten book drafts with handwritten corrections. The materials are early versions later published. "Curse not his Curls" is about George Armstrong Custer and the Battle of the Little Bighorn. "Strike Them Hard" is about a massacre of Piegan Indians on the Marias River on 23 Jan. 1870. These items were submitted to the Old Army Press for publication.
