Scope and Contents Materials include Miscellanies in Prose and Verse, a manuscript written by Abraham Orchard in 1780 in Bath, England. In the preface Orchard reflects on his experiences with sin, repentence, religion, and God. The rest of the manuscript contains poetry, prose, songs, and prayers about marriage, daily life, children, nature, and religion. The biography relates to the life and career of Marie Anne Lenormand (1772?-1843), an important prophetic spiritualist in France. Also inlcuded is a letter believed to have been written by Josephine, Empress of France and wife of Napoleon I, and a letter written by Lenormand and addressed to Louis Philippe, King...

Mormon Battalion

Handwritten poem commemorating the activities of the Mormon Battalion in service of the United States during the war with Mexico (1845-1848). The item was written in ink. "By John Hancock who went in the Battalion in 1847" has been penciled in at the bottom of the item in another hand. No John Hancock is listed among members of the battalion.

R. H. Mottram letter

Handwritten and signed letter dated March 23, 1943 and addressed to Lord Noel Buxton. The letter discusses a biography by Mottram of Sir Thomas Buxton. Included with the letter are three reviews of the book "Buxton the Liberator."
