Contains land records, indentures, promissory notes, receipts, bills, and other materials related to businesses operated by the Church or its leaders. Includes materials from Kirtland, Ohio; Missouri; and Nauvoo, Illinois, dating from between 1832 and 1882.
Contains deeds and bonds, tithing and donation records, receipts, minutes of conferences, and other materials related to Church business. Includes primarily records from the Kirtland and Nauvoo periods, with many relating to the construction of the Nauvoo Temple. Materials date from between 1833 and 1861.
The bulk of the collection describes the events of John Haslem Clark's life in his own words. He recalls his experience of traveling across the plains and settling in early Salt Lake City and Manti, and includes stories of encounters with Indians and the challenges of creating a life in newly-settled Utah. Also includes the genealogy of relatives and descendants of John Haslem Clark, Senior, John Haslem Clark's father.
Photocopies of typescripts. File contains excerpts from three documents, all originally compiled by Evans Coleman: "History of the Coleman Family;" "Saint Johns Purchase;" and "Biography of Emma Beck Coleman." These documents were originally compiled between 1938 and 1942, although all of them refer to events either in Missouri during the late 1830s or in Arizona during the 1880s.
Typescripts of the Kirtland Council Minute Book (1832-1837), photocopy of handwritten Nauvoo Library and Literary Institute records, and typescripts of the minute books of the High Council of the Mormon Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. The meeting minutes are in five books from 1840 to 1845 and document the function and activities of the leadership of the Mormon Church in Nauvoo.
John Devitry-Smith research documents, 1840-1988 contains material compiled by John Devitry-Smith while writing two BYU Studies articles. The collection includes three series: (1) Correspondence, 1987-1988; (2) Minute Book, 1862-1905; and (3) Research Materials and Manuscript, 1840-1971.
Contains articles, book and encyclopedia excerpts, notes, and other materials gathered by Kane during his research on historical topics related to the Kane family. Includes information on the Bucktails Regiment, the McKean and Elk Land and Improvement Company, the Civil War, and the Mormons. Materials date from between 1854 and 1974.
Contains materials documenting the life and Kane family history research conducted by E. Kent Kane. Includes materials on Kane's personal relationship with Mormon leaders, research files, and related items. Items date from between 1830 and 1982.
