Collection of legends on revenants in deserted houses, 1967-1983

Scope and Contents Contains legends about revenants appearing in or around deserted houses. Items were collected by students in folklore classes at Brigham Young University, Utah State University, and the University of Utah from 1967 to 1983. Most of the items are typewritten, but a few of the older items are handwritten. Many of the items contain a description of how, when, and where they were collected as well as explanations of social and cultural contexts.

Scope and Contents note Report by Utah State University folklore student Nolan C. Lee. George Johnson is a shy man who lives alone in a small house. One dead he is found dead, with no apparant cause. The house was abandoned, and now his ghost haunts it, looking for someone to talk with. Those who walk into the yard are greeted by the ghost. If they try to run away, he will strangle them and bury their bodies in the basement of the house.

An old abandoned house at the end of a blocked off road is haunted by a green man that supposedly killed someone in that house and was sentenced to die by electrocution.
