Collection consists of four missionary journals and two missionary report books, kept while Calvin was serving in the Southwestern States Mission from May 1899 to July 1901. Also includes one transcript of the journals by Alan C. Chandler, and two digital reproductions of photographs. The photographs are of the Southwestern States Missionaries, ca. 1900, and of Elder Chandler with an unidentified couple somewhere in Texas.

Abstract

The papers of David Horton Elton contain David Horton Elton’s LDS Church mission diaries, 1898 – 1900, and one additional diary, 1905.

Contains the mission journal of Darwin Engstrom. The journal documents his train ride to the Southern States Mission, his visits with church members, and the cottage and fast meetings he attended. Entries date from between 1931 and 1932.

They principally cover the time Fairbanks served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in the Southern States Mission from 1881 to 1883 and when he served as a missionary for the same faith in South and Central America from 1900 to 1902. The collection contains a typescript with annotations of Asahel Luther Fuller's first Southern States Mission journal, 14 February 1887 - 31 December 1887, and a typescript of his second Southern States Mission journal, 1 January 1888 - 19 February 1888.

The Heber Kimball Maxham papers includes four photos of Heber Kimball Maxham and his family, typewritten records of the history of the Maxham family (along with genealogy records), and two volumes of Maxham's missionary experiences from 1908 to 1910. He includes stories about church meetings, blessings, illnesses, hardships, and conversions that he experienced while in the mission field in Alabama.
