One item was written by Edward Everett (1794-1865), minister to Great Britain for the United States (1841-1845), on Nov. 23, 1843 in London and was addressed to Ashbel. Everett reports on the negotiations with Great Britain about a loan to the Republic of Texas for the purpose of ending slavery there.
