In the first meeting at 10 a.m., Governor Alfred Cumming was introduced to the people by Brigham Young; Cumming offers conciliatory remarks to the people; Gilbert Clements replies, objects to the manner of appointing officers in Utah, wants the army withdrawn; John Taylor also wants the troops removed; five people said they wanted to leave the community or to have protection from Cumming.
