James Farmer autobiography and diaries

Scope and Contents

Two holograph volumes in three parts with accompanying carbon and ribbon copy typescripts; typescript and draft of typescript of 1881-1882 diary. Describes his early life in England, missionary work for the Mormon Church in England, his immigration to Utah and accounts of ship passage, overland travel to Salt Lake City, Utah and settlement and life in Sanpete County, Utah. The 1881-82 diary deals with a mission to England. Also includes patriarchal blessings.

Winslow Farr autograph book

Scope and Contents This manuscript is a photocopy of Farr's autograph book. The book was apparently circulated among the inmates at the Utah Penitentiary who had been incarcerated for polygamy. Many of these individuals were important Mormon Church leaders on the local level, but one entry was by George Q. Cannon, a high official in the church. The signatures follow brief notes written to Farr. They tend to be flattering to Farr personally, expressing friendship to him, and commending him for his support of...

Winslow Farr journals

Collection includes daily accounts of his family, his church mission to England (vol. 2), the Utah War, persecutions concerning his practice of polygamy, his subsequent prison sentence, and his life in Colonia Dublán, Chihuahua, Mexico. Lucy H. Flake journals

Holograph journals which contain Flake's autobiography, covering the years 1842 to 1894. Includes details of her life in Beaver, Utah, and a detailed account of her life colonizing Snowflake, Arizona. William Jordan Flake diary

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary kept while Flake was kept in the Yuma, Arizona, prison for polygamy. Also included is a map of the lay out of the facility. The diary includes descriptions of the treatment of the Mormons by the guards, including work by the prisoners to repair and unload railroad cars. Also includes poetry and information from letters he received from his family.
