Commichaux tells about his position as a company commander in the German Army with the rank of captain. He participated in numerous campaigns including the invasion of Poland in 1939. Calvin William Elton interviews

Scope and Contents Interview conducted by Murray Duff on April 16, 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Elton enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1940, but he was used in ground combat in the Philippines in 1941. He was captured by the Japanese in 1942. He experienced the Bataan Death march for five days and was placed in a prison camp. Many men died every day because of disease and malnutrition. Scope and Contents Transcript of an interview conducted on 28 March 1985 by Burt Speidel, Walter's son, for the Ray Hillam military history project. Walter was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was raised in Germany. He told about the Mormon missionaries that had to leave the country in 1938, and he was afraid that Germany and the United States would have to fight each other. Scope and Contents

Transcript of an interview conducted by Clayton Dahle on 3 July 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Brown served as a gunner for the United States Army Air Corps and flew combat missions against the Japanese. He was shot down and captured by the Japanese. Even though he was starved and tortured, he managed to survive. He said that the United States participation in World War II was justified.
