Angus M. Cannon diaries and letters

Scope and Contents Collection includes three handwritten diaries dated 1885 to 1886 two letters from 1891. In his diaries, Cannon writes about his imprisonment at the Utah State Penitentiary for polygamy and his subseqent experiences as a stake president for the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. His letters are addressed to his sons George and John, and to Levi Colvin of Payson, Utah. Photocopies and typescripts of the diaries are also included.

Scope and Contents Handwritten letters dated 1888 and 1894. One of the letters is addressed to John M. Cannon. Angus refers a woman to John saying she desired a divorce. In the other item Angus thanks a friend for his kind words and support in the Mormon Church.

Scope and Contents Typewritten and signed letter written to John M. Cannon in Washington, D.C. Frank is asking John to talk to the president of the Mormon Church, Joseph F. Smith (1838-1918), concerning $15,000 in coupons which Frank gave to Smith after a conference.

Scope and Contents Typewritten and signed letter written in Washington D.C., addressed to John M. Cannon (1856-1917), and dated 27 Dec. 1901. Frank expresses gratitude for John's efforts. Frank states that an unspecified "deal" is likely to achieve success because "the principal parties have agreed to take the matter up immediately after the re-convening of Congress."

Scope and Contents Handwritten letter dated 14 April 1910. The item was written in Utah on "BLue Creek Land & Live Stock Co." stationary by a someone who signes his name as J. Smith. Smith informs Cannon that he has just returned from the ranch and has just sold his stock in the "Company."

John M. Cannon letters

Scope and Contents Handwritten and typed letters received by John M. Cannon. The items are from various business associates and family members. Two of the letters are from "Aunt Johanna." The aunt writes about funeral expenses for her parents and about some past misunderstandings relating to finances.
