Elias's parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New York, 1841-42. Elias crossed the plains to Utah in 1852 and settled in North Bend (subsequently named Fairview) in 1860.

Silas LeRoy Richards diary and family histories

Scope and Contents Handwritten autobiography and diary, family histories, genealogies, patriarchal blessings, and mementos. Much of the material relates to the history and genealogies of the Richards, Rhead (Reed), Stanley, and Huffman (Hoffman) families. Silas was born in Union and later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He held several jobs and served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission from 1902 to 1905.
