Coleman family histories

Scope and Contents Photocopies of typescripts. File contains excerpts from three documents, all originally compiled by Evans Coleman: "History of the Coleman Family;" "Saint Johns Purchase;" and "Biography of Emma Beck Coleman." These documents were originally compiled between 1938 and 1942, although all of them refer to events either in Missouri during the late 1830s or in Arizona during the 1880s.

Ethel Johnson Lewellen journals

Scope and Contents Materials include transcriptions of the journals of Ethel Johnson Lewellen. Journals contain excerpts of her financial records, daily activities, and grocery lists, and document her daily life and community events. Also includes newspaper clippings and family history materials. Collection contains compact discs with electronic transciptions of the journals; the original journals are in the donor's possession. Dated from 1935 to 1972.

Joseph Young affadavit of Haun's Mill massacre

Scope and Contents Materials include Joseph Young's original eyewitness account of events that occured during the Haun's Mill massacre on October 30, 1838. His account was witnessed and sealed on June 4, 1839, by John Woods of the Circuit Court in Adams County, Missouri. Young describes the mob, his escape, and the conditions of the victims. Young also writes that he helped bury the dead. The account was later used by the Church as evidence of the sufferings of its members in Missouri. Dated June 4, 1839.
