Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript of an interview. Harris was interviewed by Mary A. Hicks in 1937 as part of the Federal Writer's Project for the Works Progress Administration. The item includes handwritten corrections. Harris says that after the Civil War, she wanted to remain on the plantation because she was hungry and because she loved her "white folks." She tells how she and her mother worked hard after emancipation to buy land and build a home.
