Scope and Contents

Biographies, diaries, newspaper clippings, poems, correspondence, histories of Monticello, Utah, photographs of family members, and genealogies. The materials relate the Perkins family which settled in Monticello, Utah. The diaries deal largely with missions served by family members for the Mormon Church. Also included are accounts of family members attending college, encountering Indians, and working with women's organizations.

Scope and Contents

Typewritten biography of Phineas Howe Young (1799-1880) by his granddaughters Eleanor White Mackay, Seraph White Allred, and Naomi Wright. Phineas Young was a printer; building contractor; and Mormon bishop, missionary, and pioneer. He was a brother of the Mormon prophet, Brigham Young (1801-1877).

Handwritten and typewritten autobiograpy, diary, biographies, and genealogies of Young's descendents. The diary covers the years 1856 and 1857 and document Young's mission to England. Young's atuboiography covers his life to 1857. Also included are two biographies of Young written by family members.

Handwritten and signed letter addressed to Young's step-son, Willard, at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. The item relates news about family and friends in Salt Lake City, including his father, Brigham Young (1801-1877). Also included are exhortations to pray and rely on God. A typed transcript of the item is included.
