Printed forms with handwritten notations dated 10 Sept. 1852 and 15 June 1855. Homer purchases land in Conneaut, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, in 1852. Homer also purchases land in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, in 1855. This item is signed by Franklin Pierce, president of the United States.

James H. Martineau certificates

Printed and handwritten certificates, bonds, and commissions. The items document Martineau's commission in the Utah Militia, his appointment as the Sheriff of Iron County, Utah, and his position as an alderman of Parowan, Utah. Seven of the manuscripts were signed by Brigham Young (1801-1877), the second president of the Mormon Church.

Ulysses S. Grant certificates and letters

Two printed forms with handwritten notations. Grant appoints Henry Baxter as "Minister Resident" to Honduras and gives him diplomatic passage and protection. Also incuded are two handwritten and signed letters in which Grant authorizes Baxter to represent, consult, and negotiate in behalf of the United States.

David Hyrum Jenkins certificates and patriarchal blessings

Woodrow Wilson certificates of appointment

Scope and Contents

Printed, handwritten, and signed certificates of appointment. Wilson appoints Holden C. Richardson as "a Member of the Advisory Committee for Aeronautics" in 1915. The item is signed by Wilson and William Jennings Bryan, secretary of state. Wilson appoints Duncan LaMont as postmaster at Colorado City, Colorado in 1916. The item is signed by Wilson and Albert S. Burleson, postmaster general.

John Taylor certificates of copyright

Photocopies of printed certificates with handwritten additions. The materials were from the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress. The items were sent to John Taylor (1808-1887), third president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, granting him copyrights for two books. These items were entitled: "History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" and "Biography of Joseph Smith, American Prophet."

Biography of John Chadwick

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. The first page of the item is dark and very difficult to read. John Chadwick was born in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, migrated to Utah, and settled in American Fork. He died in 1914.

Biography of Sarah Jane Williams Chadwick

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Sarah Jane Williams Chadwick was born in Camp Floyed, Utah, on 1862. She lived in Provo and American Fork, Utah. She married John Chadwick in 1881. Her young son, Clarence died on 22 Jan. 1890. She rocked him all night long while he cried, "Oh, Ma, Please don't let me die, I don't want to die." She died in 1928.
