Typewritten and handwritten autobiography, genealogy, letters from family members, and a Patriarchal blessing given by the Mormon patriarch Joseph Smith, Sr. in 1836. Wood relates childhood experiences in Piute County, Utah, and Kimberly, Idaho. She details her missions for the Mormon Church to St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1912 and to London, England, in 1946. She discusses her family, pioneering experiences, and her Mormon Church related activities.

Handwritten and signed letter, dated April 22, 1845, addressed to Susannah Sangiovanni. The manuscript accompanied another by Heber C. Kimball (Vault MSS 697). The item gives an intimate look at the feelings and the attitudes of the Mormon leaders during the period after the death of Joseph Smith (1805-1844) and before the Mormons were driven from Nauvoo, Illinois starting in 1846.

Edwin Gordon Woolley autobiography and a history

Typewritten copy of an autobiography which includes excerpts from a diary. Woolley writes about his experiences in St. George, Utah, including business matters and Mormon Church assignments. He also gives an account of intercepting a Navajo Indian raiding party in 1869. Also included is a three-page typewritten account of Woolley having a personal visit with David Whitmer, one of the "Three Witnesses" to the Book of Mormon.

Joseph Young affadavit of Haun's Mill massacre

Scope and Contents

Materials include Joseph Young's original eyewitness account of events that occured during the Haun's Mill massacre on October 30, 1838. His account was witnessed and sealed on June 4, 1839, by John Woods of the Circuit Court in Adams County, Missouri. Young describes the mob, his escape, and the conditions of the victims. Young also writes that he helped bury the dead. The account was later used by the Church as evidence of the sufferings of its members in Missouri. Dated June 4, 1839.
