Biographical sketch of the life of Samuel Wagstaff

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Samuel Wagstaff was born in 1820 in England, married Lucy Webb in 1840, and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1849. He migrated to Utah in 1862 and settled in American Fork. Samuel went to prison for polygamy in 1888 and died in 1897. The title page of the item states, "by Ada W. Barratt." At the end of the biography is written, "Sketch written by Bertha N. Sager."

G. D. Watt letters

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letters mostly addressed to Martha D. Watt. Nine of the items are the originals while the remaining four are photostat copies. George Watt writes about family matters and relationships with his wifes, his activities in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper, the Church of Zion, and his employment with Brigham Young, the second president of the Mormon Church.

Baldwin Harvey Watts diary and prison papers

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary and prison records. Watts kept the diary while serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Bristol, England, area in 1875. Also included are records relating to Watts' incarceration in the Utah prison for polygamy in 1888. Watts compiled a list of 668 men imprisoned for polygamy from 1884 to 1889. John Mills Whitaker diaries

Scope and Contents Photocopies of typewritten transcripts of a handwritten journal. The items were originally kept in Pitman shorthand. The entries are extensive and detailed. Whitaker was raised in Centerville, Utah but lived much of his adult life in Salt Lake City, Utah. This collection is a typescript of memoirs by Flora Snow Woolley which was compiled and illustrated by Julius Woolley Dalley. Flora describes her early life in Salt Lake City, Provo, and St. George, Utah; her life as a polygamous wife and a young mother; her experiences on the "underground" to avoid arrest by federal officials for polygamy; and the rearing and educating of her own and her husband's other wife's children.

Margaret Pierce Whitesides Young autobiography
