Seth Millington Blair diary and autobiography
Typescript of an autobiography. Blair writes about his parents, his joining of the Mormon Church, his migration to Utah, his mission to Texas for the Mormon Church, and his life in Salt Lake City, Utah. He includes patriarchal blessings of family members. There are many gaps in the diary.
Joseph Curtis diaries
Photocopy of a microfilm copy of handwritten diaries. Curtis also writes about his early life. He was born in Pennsylvania and joined the Mormon Church in 1833. He lived in Missouri and told about the persecution of Mormons there. He later lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, and served on two missions at that time. He came to Utah in 1848 and later settled in Utah Valley, Utah. Curtis was involved in numerous activities including defending Utah from the Utah Expedition in 1858.
John Murdock autobiographies and an essay
John Murdock autobiography and diary
Typescripts of a diary and an abridgement of diaries for the years from 1830 to 1859 and 1832. Murdock joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1830 and lived in Kirtland, Ohio; Missouri; Nauvoo, Illinois; and Salt Lake City, Utah. He had numerous assignments for the Church and migrated to Utah in 1847. He participated in Zion's Camp in 1834 and went on a mission to Australia from 1852 to 1853.
Patriarchal blessings by Isaac Morley
Handwritten patriarchal blessings both given on 8 Jan. 1849 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were given to Willard G. and Martha Richards McMullin. Morley promises the McMullins that they can receive glory after their deaths by their faithfulness to the Mormon Church while they are alive.
David Pettigrew autobiography and diary
Silas LeRoy Richards diary and family histories
Handwritten autobiography and diary, family histories, genealogies, patriarchal blessings, and mementos. Much of the material relates to the history and genealogies of the Richards, Rhead (Reed), Stanley, and Huffman (Hoffman) families. Silas was born in Union and later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He held several jobs and served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission from 1902 to 1905.
Jacob Foutz Secrist diaries and correspondence
Photocopies of handwritten correspondence, letters, and a patriarchal blessing. The materials were created when Secrist was serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany and Switzerland. The correspondents were his wife, Ann Eliza Logan Secrist, and other family members. Secrist writes about his missionary activities, and his wife and others tell about events in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bathsheba W. Bigler Smith autobiography
Photocopy of a 260-page handwritten autobiography. Smith includes copies of correspondence and patriarchal blessings in her account. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837, lived with the Mormons in Missouri and Illinois, married George Albert Smith in 1841, allowed him to take additional wives, came to Utah in 1849, and served as president of the Relief Society.
Jesse Nathaniel Smith papers
Autobiography, diary, correspondence, genealogies, patriarchal blessings, certificates, and miscellaneous items. Smith was the president of the Scandinavian Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1862 to 1864 and an early settler in Salt Lake City and in Parowan, Utah and in Snowflake, Arizona.
